Stephen King drama Under the Dome has been axed after three seasons.

CBS has confirmed it will conclude with its Sept. 10 finale and promising to wrap the storyline about on its mysterious dome.

The series has been effective as a summer drama for CBS, attracting a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 and and 13.5 million viewers.

Hollywood Reporter notes the current season still ranked as broadcast’s No. 2 scripted series of the summer, behind FOX’s Wayward Pines, but it’s a far cry from its previous audience.

“Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world,” said CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler. “Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”

TEN is currently fast-tracking the third and final season.

  1. I love this show, but I’m sorry it’s going to end, but I guess it was going to end sooner or later because they couldn’t keep everyone under the dome forever.

  2. Now I thought when this was first announced it was going to be a short mini series, one season no more. Good to see it will end so now I might start watching what I’ve missed this season.

  3. Thank god for that, it’s been lumbering like a wounded dog since mid season two and quite frankly I don’t care whether anyone lives or dies under there anymore.

  4. This is for the best – this 3rd season has been quite crazy and I cringed at the idea when I heard the writers had many different directions they could go in should there be more seasons after the dome was gone. At least this way it will wrap up and be done… I’m a few weeks behind and look forward to watching the show conclude.

    1. Agreed. If it went on for the 8 seasons they were thinking…
Even the first episode of this season made no sense with the cocoons.
At least it’ll have an ending now.

      1. The ending will be ‘Big Jim wakes up with a start-it had all been a bad dream’…
Worth noting that the other 2 series mentioned (Zoo and Extant) have also tanked here.
