9HDFoxtel has confirmed channel changes for new Nine channels for its Cable subscribers.

For HD tier customers with HD capable boxes, 9HD will be provided in High Definition from Thursday November 26th. 9Life will also be available.

However Satellite subscribers are at the mercy of the continued stand-off between Free to Air and Pay TV to foot the bill for satellite costs.

9SD
No changes: Channel 100

Meanwhile Foxtel is yet to advise of plans to provide SBS-managed Food Network, which launched yesterday. An SBS spokesperson told TV Tonight it was a question for Foxtel.

“We raised it with them and hope the channel will be available for audiences who watch SBS through Foxtel, along with our other channels.”

  1. Hopefully they do in fact mean channel 9SD will be channel 109 instead of 100. Much more logical and easier to flick between 107 and 110. Currently, 109 isn’t used and you’d think this change would be made considering Foxtel are making changes to other channels.

  2. Brilliant. Well done Foxtel – thanks for taking notice of our comments on TV Tonight about the necessity to transmit 9 in HD to keep us in the Foxtel IQ ecosystem.

  3. It’s a shame that the main people who lose out here is the viewer regarding the whole who pays what for rebroadcasting on Foxtel. With the ever changing landscape – would you not think they could come together and come up with a solution that benefits everyone? I know, crazy idea and I’m sure there are business decisions as to why they are taking this stance – but as more people look towards different alternatives to view programs – surely it is in their interests to come up with a solution.

    1. In most places the Pay TV operators pay the FTA networks for their content, or are carried for free. For example it’s always been the case in the US (due to the way cable TV was implemented), and Sky stopped charging BBC/ITV/Ch4/Ch5 in the UK last year after the BBC threatened to charge Sky for their content.

Of course, with Australian FTA networks in comparison generating so little of their own content they don’t have that sort of leverage…

  4. Well Channel Nine and SBS should know that most Foxtel satelite customers won’t be watching these channels. If its not available through Foxtel, its too hard to switch back and forth to the antenna input, so no Gem, Life or Food Network will be seen.

  5. That is confusing. They should put nine HD on 100 for those with HD and nine SD on 100 for those without. They do a similar thing with the foxtel HD channels.

    1. Agreed, especially since ABC24HD is not aligned with the rest of the FTA HD channels

Also, was interested in seeing the SBS Food channel, but not there yet. I hope Fox hurries up on that

    1. It’s been confirmed by Nein in a few articles/interview dating back to the initial announcement e.g. mediaweek.com.au/nine-is-broadcasting-its-channel-in-hd-but-not-for-everyone/
