US networks reacted quickly to the news of terrorist attacks in France, cancelling a planned Live broadcast of the comedy series, Undateable.

The show’s cast and writers posted messages of support to the victims of the attacks.

“To our fans, friends & family: we love you. And we love to make you laugh. Tonight we will not air out of respect for our friends in Paris,” they said on Twitter.

Broadcast news divisions called “all hands on deck” to cover the story.

U2 has cancelled its planned Saturday concert that HBO was due to broadcast in the US.

“As a result of the ongoing state of emergency across France, the U2 Paris concert scheduled for 14th November will not be going ahead as planned,” said the band in a statement. “U2 and Live Nation, along with HBO who were due to live broadcast the Saturday concert, are fully resolved to go ahead with this show at an appropriate time.”

A 24-hour climate change concert at the Eiffel Tower featuring the likes of Elton John and Duran Duran was shut down after five hours.

Stephen Colbert delivered ended his Late Show by saying, “Folks, we end tonight’s show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonight’s show and then we found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today. I know that not much is known right now. We do know there have been many deaths. The price is still ongoing.”

HBO’s Bill Maher told his audience, “Before we get to the hilarity, I want to say something to the citizenry of Paris,” before singing some of the French national anthem. “It’s my way of saying, ‘We’re with ya’.”

A Democratic debate will go on but some of the focus will shift to international topics.

But actor Rob Lowe was criticised for comments he made via Twitter.

“Vive La France! #Paris,” he began, before calling out French President Francois Hollande about his decision to close the borders.

“Oh, NOW France closes its borders. #Hollande” he wrote.

“This is either the worst translation of an important speech ever, or one of the worst ever given. #Hollande”

After widespread criticism targeting refugees, he clarified, “Lived in France, and spend a ton of time there. Been in that stadium. This is all so devastatingly sad for a place I love. #FrenchPrayers.”
