UK Big Brother gives Angie Bowie grim news

It's never an easy decision for producers to tell Big Brother contestants news from outside.

Celebrity Big Brother UK will inform contestant Angie Bowie about the passing of her ex-husband, David Bowie.

A spokesperson told OK! Online: “Following the very sad news of David Bowie’s death this morning, we can confirm that Angie Bowie will be informed off camera today at the earliest opportunity.

“We will update further once this has taken place.”

Angie Bowie was married to David Bowie for 10 years before they split in 1980.

She recently told fellow housemate David Gest that she was estranged from their son.

“No, I don’t see [Duncan] at all, he doesn’t like me. But my daughter likes me,” she said.

“I guess David told him not to [talk to me]. It does seem odd.”

Big Brother rules ban outside contact but in 2012 Australian BB producers turned off cameras to tell contestant Josh Moore about the passing of his brother.

During 2007’s Big Brother a housemate’s father passed away but the family told producers it was their wishes not to advise the contestant.

In the second season of US BB producers had to weigh up whether to tell housemates about the attacks on the World Trade Center, which they eventually did. Games were suspended for the week as a result.

Updated: Angie Bowie has elected to remain in the Big Brother house. She has not spoken to David Bowie for decades.

    1. A lifetime away, but not long enough not to get yourself on a celebrity reality show using his name.

Anyway, turned out unintentionally quite dramatic thanks to one housemate getting their David’s mixed up and thinking a housemate had died.
