Report: X Factor pursuing One Direction’s Liam Payne

British press are reporting X Factor Australia is keen on former UK judge and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and her boyfriend, One Direction’s Liam Payne for its upcoming season.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini announced this week that she was leaving the UK X Factor to focus on her singing career.

The Mirror reports UK executive producer Richard Holloway has given the all clear for X Factor Australia to approach both Cheryl, 32, and Liam, 22.

Nabbing a One Direction star would be a strategic in pitching the 2016 season at a youthful audience, after last year’s show was oddly trumped in the young demos by The Block.

Dannii Minogue has confirmed she is out for this year, while host Luke Jacobz is also not expected to return.

  1. Hardly anyone knows Cheryl here so I’m not sure I’d go with her unless she turns out to be interesting like a Mel B. Can’t say I’d be thrilled with Liam but he definitely will bring in a well established fan base.

  2. Yes I think both would be great, I doubt she would say no to the UK version but yes to ours, it airs at roughly the fans time. We could never pay as much as she was getting there.

    I also agree, let’s fill it with Aussie talent, why not get Nat Bas back to host, she was great on SYTYCD. But let’s keep the talent fresh and now, no Mark Holden etc.

  4. I’ll be the one who says “what about Aussie talent”?
    Shock us with a good, left of field panel of majority Aussie judges Channel 7. Sarah blasko, Jess Mauboy, Bernard Fanning, the list goes on.
    I wasn’t surprised that my fellow youth demographic weren’t interested last year- Luke, Guy and Dannii all lost their appeal, james blunt is a twitter meme now who releases the odd single, and Chris was clearly an attempt to grab the older demographics attention. Adding a one direction member to the judging panel probably won’t grab our attention (unless they somehow get Zayn/Zayne)
