Have there been soil problems at the next site for The Block?

That’s the word according to one insider. Whether it is major enough to delay production is unclear.

Nine is yet to confirm the site for the upcoming series, which media have speculated is in Port Melbourne.

The 2,355-square-metre art deco building was an old soap factory built in the 1920s, and now carries a heritage overlay. It was recently sold with a rumoured $5m price tag.

Of course, any major building site comes with its own unique challenges. Over the years The Block has had its share of hicccups, including frustrated neighbours, council permits and more.

Nine was tight-lipped yesterday on its plans for the next season.

  1. Are 9 really that paranoid Victorians won’t watch so they have film every series of The Block in Melbourne?

Or is their paranoia justified so as they can run their “made in Melbourne” ads?

9’s infatuation with everything Victorian is sickening.

  2. An old soap factory, animal carcasses and caustic soda, foundation problems, heritage listed, restrictive council permits, pesky conservationists and in a tourist area of a major city. Sounds like an episode of “Grand Designs”, at least some of the natives speak English.

  3. a lengthy delay could be a blessing for the Block.

Masterchef was going off the boil in 2013 when 4 seasons were on air within 12 months, including spin-offs. The successful solution was to drop all spinoffs and leave it off the air for almost a full 12 months. The Block/Reno Rumble are clearly off the boil right now and need to do the same, hold the next season for 2017.

  4. An old Soap factory is the new location for The Block? Well how perfect considering the sudsy soap opera that’s about to be made there.
