Madonna performed a tribute to the late Prince at the Billboard Music Awards today, which is attracting plenty of comment.
She appeared on stage to sing “Nothing Compares to You.” Stevie Wonder then joined for “Purple Rain.”
But while some called it moving, others were criticising her vocal performance.

No matter what Madonna does, she’s ripped apart by the press and on social media. The vitriol that has been spewed over this particular performance is frightening. Thankfully, there have been many positive articles and comments about the performance. Once Madonna has passed, people will fall all over themselves to praise her. Of the great 80s solo artists, she’s literally the only one still achieving significant success worldwide (and one of the only ones who’s still alive, sadly). She’s spent her whole career pushing buttons – she’s not going to stop now, and good for her. I thought it was a moving tribute to a true legend by a living legend.
I guess somebody turned the autotune off.
I think she’s holding up better than Mariah – and she is widely recognised as a great voice.
You seem to know a lot about Madonna pre and post production, but I don’t get the impression you’re a fan
Holding up better than Mariah? Clearly you haven’t seen any of her recent performances in Europe, or Vegas, or Christmas shows? What an ignorant comment based upon one bad performance 2 years ago.
Madge has never been a good singer-always relied on post production work and even then, not all that convincing.
