As a child Bob lost both his parents. His mother died, and his father had to go away for work. Bob admits that it is from this childhood experience that his defiance of authority stemmed.

As a young boy, Bob Geldof saw the people caring for the sick in Lourdes and discovered something that struck him not as Catholic, but as essentially and beautifully human.
