Next week ABC premieres the UK mystery series Agatha Raisin based on the books by M.C Beaton.

This stars Ashley Jensen as a Cotswold amateur sleuth, plus and Matthew Horne.

ABC has previously screened the 2014 telemovie Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death, but this series followed in 2016.

High-flying PR whizz Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) is taking her foot off the gas. Having spent years toiling away, making a success of herself in London, the forty-something singleton has hit the refresh button and moved on to pastures new. Specifically the tiny village of Carsely in the Cotswolds, which ticks all the boxes: peaceful, stress-free and easy. Like all the best laid plans, it turns out to be anything but when murders occur in the village, its amateur sleuth Agatha who solves the crimes,
often in a very unorthodox way.

Episode1: The Walkers of Wembley
When militant rambler Jessica Tartinck (Debbie Chazen) is found bashed to death in a field, former PR
whiz Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) is forced to go undercover to get to the bottom of the grisly
crime.

Agatha Raisin, retired PR whiz and recovering career woman, has settled into her comfortable
Carsely cottage, but is still restless to fit in and make her mark among the locals. Still pining after
next-door neighbour James Lacey (Jamie Glover), she joins a local ramblers’ group, of which James is
a member, only to find him becoming entangled in a romantic web spun by rich recent arrival Mary
Fortune (Daisy Beaumont).

7.30pm Saturday September 3 on ABC.

  1. I have not read the books….did not even know there were any….but I enjoyed the previous offering….casting …all was good for me….each to their own………

    1. I hope not, I quite enjoyed The Quiche of Death. It rated around the mill mark on Sky1 which is roughly equivalent to 400K here so fingers crossed.
