Patricia Routledge, better known as Hyacinth Bucket in UK sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, is made a Dame in today’s New Year’s Day honours, for her services to theatre and charity.
Mark Rylance, the Wolf Hall and Bridge of Spies star is also recognised for services to the theatre.
Actress Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders) will receive an OBE along with presenter Maggie Philbin, honoured for her work in sparking young peoples’ interest in working in science, technology and engineering.
Her credits include Tomorrow’s World, Multi-Coloured Swap Shop and, more recently, Bang Goes the Theory.
