Rachel Griffiths has her next US drama series lined up, on an untitled medical drama for NBC.
Described as a real-time “extreme event” series it follows the nurses and doctors of an understaffed Brooklyn hospital that becomes the last viable trauma centre after a hurricane wreaks havoc on the city.
On a holiday weekend with few doctors on call, the medical staff will be pushed to make the most difficult life-and-death choices as they work to save their patients and themselves.
The project is written / executive produced by Warren Leight (Law and Order) and directed / exec produced by Charles McDougall.
Griffiths will play Kim Masters, an Emergency Department nurse who arguably holds the place together through sheer force of personality. Unhappily divorced from Officer Billy McCann, she’s a single mother with a 13-year-old son, and her own mother is edging into the shadowland of dementia.
Griffiths has most recently been seen on When We Rise, and is well-known in the US for Six Feet Under and Brothers & Sisters amongst others.

Great to see Rachel Griffiths on a US show again. Hopefully we’ll get it here. 7 usually gets NBC shows.
