Airdate: The Wizard of Lies

Showcase will air HBO telemovie The Wizard of Lies later this month, which stars Robert De Niro as businessman Bernard Madoff, the operator of a Ponzi scheme that is considered the largest financial fraud in US history.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Alessandro Nivola and Hank Azaria also feature.

The 2.5hr telemovie, directed by Barry Levinson, will screen same day as the US.

In 2008, stockbroker, investment advisor and financier Bernie Madoff made headlines around the world when he was arrested for perpetrating perhaps the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. This film examines Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme – his deception, lies and cover-up, all as the financier’s wife and sons are catapulted into a harsh and unrelenting spotlight. Robert De Niro plays the role of family patriarch Bernie Madoff, Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Ruth Madoff, Bernie’s long time spouse and unwitting partner during the events that would lead to financial ruin for countless people and institutions, as well as his and his family’s destruction.
