VICELAND to screen Batman: The Movie in Adam West tribute

Adam West & Burt Ward lead an all-star cast in a camp classic.

On Saturday night SBS VICELAND will screen Batman: The Movie (1966) in a tribute to the late Adam West.

The film includes most members of the original TV cast, with the exception of Lee Meriwether as Catwoman, previously played by Julie Newmar.

On Thursday in LA the city will become “Gotham City” for a day by lighting the bat signal into the night sky.

The world’s most notorious criminal minds team up to conquer Gotham City and it’s up to the Caped Crusaders to defeat the nefarious foes and restore order. Stars Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. Boasting an all-star supporting cast, with Cesar Romero as the Joker; Lee Meriwether as Catwoman; Burgess Meredith as The Penguin; and Frank Gorshin turning in a dastardly performance as The Riddler.

8:30pm Saturday on SBS VICELAND.

  1. The movie was the 1st chance to see ‘Batman’ in colour here in the early 1970s when I saw it at the cinema (special kids’ matinee)-the series was shown in B&W prior to 1975 so the vibrancy of its colours was striking-saw it again at a midnight ‘Cult’ screening in 1988 and a few times on TV over the years-still well worth a giggle!

    1. Ah those were the days of Kids Matinee’s, grew up in Geelong and used to get down to the Pix Theatre in Geelong West most Saturday Afternoons, front doors would be locked and the parents would leave us there. Sadly that Cinema is no more having been demolished in April last year, however yes I remember well seeing the Batman The Movie there one Saturday arvo. Though it was probably about 1968 or 69 for me, as I would have been 7 or 8 and wondered why it was grey and white on TV and wondering if it would turn into colour like the Wizard Of Oz did.

Will be watching the film again and looking forward to the scene of Batman trying to get rid of the bomb, one of my personal highlights in the film.

  2. It’s a good thing VICELAND is showing Batman instead of the commercial networks cause they like to have little on screen advertisements during programs. I still remember the episode of M*A*S*H* when a time travelling George Calombaris appeared on screen.
