Helena Bonham Carter is “all but confirmed” to play Princess Margaret in the next series of The Crown.
She is poised to play the Queen’s younger sister in the third & fourth instalments of the Netflix series, replacing Vanessa Kirby.
Olivia Colman is already announced to replace Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II.
Foy said of the lasting casting news: “She’ll be fantastic, she’s an extraordinary actress.”
The Evening Standard reported Bonham Carter was initially considered for the role of Elizabeth II herself, before landing her wilder sister.

I’m nearly through rewatching S1. Vanessa Kirby has been a great find for Nina Gold & co. I never thought I would say this, ever, but HBC is probably the logical successor.
Do we know who will be replacing Matt Smith? I don’t know why they can’t just use make-up to age them.
Not yet. I was thinking Donald Sutherland but he is too old alongside Olivia Colman.
It’d be a long shot but what about Ralph Fiennes.
Interesting!
The long shot is Ralph Fiennes availability I would think he would play an older Prince Philip with ease.
I agree. Matt has aged up previously but I guess the show has made him a “hot” international property so best to ride that wave rather than being tied up to a particular part for a number of years (He only did 3 series of Doctor Who). I think Paul Bettany would be great as Phillip but honestly, Matt is so extraordinary in The Crown that he has stamped Phil the Greek as his own.
Points to you for prediction. Looks like it is happening.
