US Today show confirms female co-hosts following Matt Lauer firing

Sending a message for 2018, Hoda Kotb becomes the permanent replacement for Matt Lauer.

The US Today show has confirmed its first all-female panel with the announcement of Hoda Kotb as the permanent replacement for Matt Lauer.

Kotb (pictured, right) has been filling in for Lauer since he was fired on November 29 for inappropriate sexual behaviour. She joined NBC News in 1998 as a correspondent for Dateline.

Whilst Kotb and co-presenter Savannah Guthrie become the first all-female duo in Today‘s history, Good Morning America had Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts co-anchoring on ABC from 2006-2009.

“I’m pinching myself,” Kotb said on Twitter. “I think that we should send some medics to Alexandria, Virginia, where my mother has likely fainted.”

NBC News chairman Andy Lack said, “They have an undeniable connection with each other and most importantly, with viewers, a hallmark of Today.

“Hoda is, in a word, remarkable. She has the rare ability to share authentic and heartfelt moments in even the most difficult news circumstances. It’s a tribute to her wide range and her innate curiosity.”

Today (US) still airs daily in Australia on Seven.

  1. i wonder if there will be any mention in the news and social media about the pay comprassion with Savannah and Hoda and i wonder if they will be paid the same amount.
well done Hoda on the gig- but i think Al should be sitting in Matt Lauer place.

  2. Apparently her pay is $7m and there is a lot of discussion about Lauer raking in $25m. No real comparison to be made here, in my opinion, she hasn’t anchored the show for 25 years, like Lauer did.
