  1. The Cloverfield franchise is a marketing ploy. 10 Cloverfield Lane was a low budget independent horror film with an apocalyptic setting, to which they added a tiny crossover element. Paradox was an independent $5m SF film Bad Robot were making that they converted into a Cloverfield Prequel to get another $35m out of Paramount. Paramount didn’t like the testing results, so rather than sink more money into cinema release and marketing, they sold it off to Netflix. Netflix has stopped buying up low budget arthouse films and switched to B grade genre films which appeal to their geek audience (who even streamed Bright). The reason for all this is that Paramount are in financial difficulty and have appointed a new boss to clean house. They have done a similar deal for Annihilation, but retained a small US cinema release because the book has fans who will fork out for tickets.

    1. After taking further interest in this production I found out this info too, I believe J.J. Abrams was also excluded from having any further creative input to fix the problems as part of the $35 million deal and the first planned movie (that had nothing to do with the Cloverfield franchise) was originally titled The God Particle with a very modest budget of $5 million.

  2. I believe this could be the last of three Cloverville movies and The Cloverville Paradox, has already been panned in a review I read this morning. J.J. Abrams creative influence will not always have a box office commercial market as a priority as he seems to prefer making product for TV, which may have been the appeal for Abrams to work with Netflix, I will watch this movie and shall make up my mind about it then.
