No surprises that US mystery drama Wayward Pines, starring Matt Dillon, has officially been axed by FOX.
The series from filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan first debuted in 2015 and grew to attract positive viewer feedback for its twisted sense of fun. Stranger Things creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer worked on the first season of the show as co-exec producers.
A second instalment in 2016, starring Jason Patric, however was nowhere near as successful. But FOX executives last year suggested during the Television Critics Association press tour that it might return for a third instalment.
The series has not aired for over 18 months. It screened in Australia on FX.

Like all the below comments, I agree – this should have stuck to it’s original one season plan. Season two could not live up to the first, and I dropped off after 2 episodes.
They should’ve left it as a decent one series event.
I thought it had already been axed, but I guess it’s just inevitable when a series hasn’t returned after so long.
Like Sully, I enjoyed the 1st season a lot. Personally, I didn’t hate the 2nd season, but am glad it has now ended. I didn’t see a ‘Mr. Robot’ like series 3 bounce-back in this case.
I watched the first season a couple of years ago on DVD and actually rather enjoyed it, it it quite weird and takes a while to get into it, especially if you know the premise. The climax and finale of this season was also quite good. But the second season was terrible, gave up after the first couple of epsiodes, sadly. I like Matt Dillon as an actor, he was great in the film “Wild Things” from the 1990s.
