SuRie to represent UK at Eurovision

Solo singer will take her up-tempo track, Storm, to Lisbon in May.

UK singer SuRie will represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal in May.

She was voted the winner of BBC2’s Eurovision You Decide contest, with her up-tempo track, Storm, beating out 5 other acts.

SuRie, real name Susanna Marie, has appeared as a backing singer for Belgium’s Loic Nottet during Eurovision  in 2015 and was the musical director for the Belgian entry in 2017.

The United Kingdom holds the record for the highest number of runner-up placings, coming in second on no less than 15 occasions. It has won the contest a total of five times, but the last was in 1997 with Katrina & the Waves, before a 20 year drought.

Australia will be represented by Jessica Mauboy in Portugal, but the song is yet to be revealed.
