Brisbane-based news presenter Bill McDonald is exiting Seven News after 5 years, in what has been described as “an amicable agreement.”
Seven news and current affairs boss Craig McPherson confirmed McDonald would no longer be part of the Seven Network after “some sports broadcasting work for the Commonwealth Games” in April.
The Courier Mail reports McPherson acknowledged the decision stemmed from issues including ratings and money, with Nine News having won 38 out of 40 of the ratings weeks, averaging 202,800 viewers to Seven’s 185,500.
Prior to joining Seven, McDonald spent 8 years as TEN’s Brissy presenter and fronted Sports Tonight.
Sharon Ghidella will continue presenting weeknights but an announcement is expected after a restructure of the newsroom.
McDonald’s final bulletin will air tonight.

I liked Bill McDonald.
hey David any news as to what he will do next
That means only Nine in Brisbane has a male/female duo reading the news. Sseven & Ten will have females & ABC has a male newsreader.
Brisbane and its insistence on male/female doubled headed news reading, Sharyn is great just let her host solo for heaven sake!
The irony is that the Gold Coast bulletin will now have more presenters than the state bulletin…
