SBS to monitor bulletins from China’s new “super-broadcaster”

China's new super broadcaster set to broadcast govt vision to international audiences.

China’s ruling Communist Party plans to create a super broadcaster aimed at international audiences as part of a wider push to sell “Xiplomacy” -selling President Xi Jinping’s vision for China to become a bigger player on the world stage.

SBS Australia says it will monitor Voice of China news, which it offers as part of its SBS World Watch suite.

An SBS spokesman said, “In accordance with the SBS Codes of Practice, SBS clearly identifies the source of each World Watch bulletin to ensure that audiences are aware that the content is not produced by SBS.

“SBS will continue to monitor all our international news services to ensure that they meet our strict codes and guidelines.”

In 2012 SBS axed its locally produced Mandarin News Australia after 2 years due to low ratings.
