SBS confirms timeslot for anticipated second season as a new trailer drops.

A new trailer has been released for Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale.

SBS has also confirmed the broadcast details, airing as a double episode simultaneously with SBS On Demand at 8:30pm Thursday April 26 (same day as the US).

Marshall Heald, SBS Director of TV and Online Content said: “The first season of The Handmaid’s Tale was an overwhelming success with Australian audiences embracing its themes of women’s rights and governmental power and control.

“To date the series has had 26 million chapter views, making it the most watched series ever on SBS On Demand*. The Handmaid’s Tale is thought-provoking, timely and scarily relevant, and is exactly the sort of premium drama that SBS wants to bring Australians.”

Aussie Daina Reid (Sunshine, Romper Stomper, The Secret River, Offspring) also directs this season.

This second season will expand the world of the Handmaids, with newcomers to the cast including Cherry Jones (Transparent, 24), Marissa Tomei, Clea DuVall (Veep), and Bradley Whitford (Get Out, The West Wing) joins as a Commander.

Among the returning cast are Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winning Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Australia’s Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer, Emmy® award-winning Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Samira Wiley and Amanda Brugel.

Executive Producers of season two are Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken and Elisabeth Moss. The series is created for television by Bruce Miller, based on the work of Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.
