There are no trains centrestage this time but Michael Portillo’s Abandoned Britain on SBS will visit mysterious buildings that hold the key to some of Great Britain’s biggest secrets.
This is a 4 part series which aired in the UK in November.
In this series, Michael Portillo will unlock the doors to four extraordinary abandoned locations to reveal his hidden history of Britain; The Royal London Hospital, a 400-year-old prison, a ghost village, and a top-secret military base. What is justice for? How did Britain pioneer a health system for everyone? How do they weigh up the rights of the individual against the needs of the State? And how much should the people know about what their government does to keep them safe?
Series One, Episode Four:
Hidden away in the heart of the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire is the abandoned shell of Imber. A thousand-year-old-village was once a vibrant community before a series of extraordinary events transformed it into a desolate ghost town.

According to my EPG, it’s out of the schedule this week, replaced with… trains!
Series One, Episode Four:…I am a tad confused…are we starting with ep. 4 or did I miss the rest?
It’s possible we are starting with #4 but I would say it is a mistake by SBS.
