US actor Harry Anderson, best known for Night Court, has died aged 65.
He was found at his North Carolina home by police officers early on Monday morning. No foul play was suspected, police advise.
Anderson played Judge Harry Stone in Night Court from 1984 to 1992, encountering a host of oddball characters every week and co-starring with John Larroquette.
He gained attention after he guest starred as grifter Harry “the Hat” Gittes on Cheers. After Night Court ended, he co-starred as columnist Dave Barry in the comedy Dave’s World, which ran for four seasons.
Anderson was a magician-turned-actor. In 2000 he opened the nightclub Oswald’s Speakeasy in New Orleans, where he performed a mix of comedy and magic, largely shunning Hollywood aside from a few guest appearances.
His other credits included Son of the Beach, 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, Tales From the Crypt, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, It, and The John Larroquette Show.
