Tough launch for Love Island but Nine wins Sunday

Ratings: Only 155,000 viewers tuned in for 9GO!'s new reality show. Gordon Ramsay fires up TEN kitchen.

Despite all the hype around Love Island it has launched to a disappointing 155,000 on 9GO!

That wasn’t enough to topple a 7mate movie The Avengers at 222,000. Numerous ABC KIDS shows also rated higher across the day.

9GO!’s share for the evening at 3.6% was even lower than last Sunday’s 4.1%.

The arrival of Gordon Ramsay into the MasterChef Kitchen ensured it was the top reality performer at 903,000 viewers, eclipsing The Voice on 896,000 and House Rules at 795,000.

But Sunday Night also suffered a switch off with just 444,000 interested in Jacqui Lambie’s love woes.

ABC News was best for ABC at 739,000.

Nine network won Sunday with 32.1% then Seven 27.8%, TEN 19.5%, ABC 14.5% and SBS 6.1%.

Nine News (1.11m) was best for Nine then The Voice (896,000), 60 Minutes (721,000 in preliminary figures) and a Love Island replay (246,000 in preliminary figures, expected to be adjusted to 160,000).

Seven News was #1 with 1.18m then House Rules (795,000), Sunday Night (444,000) and Crimes that Shook the World (188,000).

MasterChef Australia (903,000) won for TEN then The Sunday Project (479,000 / 281,000), Roseanne (392,000), TEN Eyewitness News (306,000), Family Feud and NCIS (both 213,000). SEAL Team was just 101,000.

ABC News (739,000), Attenborough and the Empire of the Ants (541,000), Agatha Christie’s Ordeal by Innocence (469,000), Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (256,000), The Checkout (175,000) and Janis: Little Girl Blue (138,000) comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Britain’s Pompeii at 225,000 then Elvis: The Searcher (192,000) and SBS World News (150,000).

  1. I’m surprised that Love Island is on 9GO since it’s such a child skewing channel. Would have thought 9Life would have been a better fit.

  2. I think you have to take the show for the trashy TV it is. You get to switch your brain off and not have to think about real world problems for an hour. Its fast food TV. Shame its in GO… its hard for any show to rate well on a secondary channel. A lot of people wouldn’t even know it’s on with so many other options to watch TV shows and movies.

  3. Nine actually tried to put a positive spin on the worst ratings for this love island show 155,000 is embaressing pathetic its in the bottom of the barrel of pay tv ratings .i can’t believe that many actually watched it .it really is bad tV .just sleazy .

  4. Sad for Seal Team being so low. Its on later at night also as is NCIS. Its doing better in the States. She seems doomed before it gets started.

  5. It was so obvious that Jacqui lambie on Sunday night would tank why seven what was seven thinking

I knew Gordon would lift Masterchef I thought it would have gone over the magic million and I didn’t think it would be that close to the voice

  6. I’m an over 60’s person and watched a little bit of Love Island just to see what it was like. Well it’s certainly not for me and I don’t understand all the hype about Sophie Monk. Can understand if under 25’s enjoyed it though.

    1. During last night’s premiere, a social media consensus formed: These people are terrible and this show is garbage … Can’t wait for episode two.

  7. Everyone is up in arms about Love Island. Yes its trash, but it never pretended it wasn’t. I’m sure ratings will increase when time shifted and 9now numbers are added. Good To See Masterchef On Top.

      1. I’m no fan of trash like Love Island, MAFS or MKR, but we get the kind of TV we deserve. If historical documentaries or science shows suddenly started rating, we’d have those stripped multiple nights a week as well.

  8. “Love Island (it has) launched to a disappointing 155,000”. Indeed it is disappointing that 155,000 actually watched this garbage.
I was waiting…and waiting for 60 Minutes. Couldn’t believe my ears when Sonia told viewers to change channels, when Nine’s expensive current affairs flagship program was next.

    1. I could not believe 60 Minutes was on so late…Use to be it had a regular time slot every week….I use to watch…too all over the place for me now.

    1. Love Island started at 8:30 so by the time Sonia told viewers to switch over at 9:30, Love Island only had half an hour to go. So it wouldn’t have made much impact on the ratings. I don’t think Love Island did that bad considering it was almost over by the time The Voice finished which would have cut into it’s ratings. I always thought it was going to be more of a demo hit rather than a hit in total viewers anyway, as the older crowd would stay away from this type of show.
