NITV marks 25 years since the Native Title Act in Australia & the 30th anniversary of the Barunga Statement.

Tonight NITV current affairs program, The Point marks 25 years since the Native Title Act in Australia and the 30th anniversary of the Barunga Statement.

The Point’s co-hosts, Rachael Hocking and John Paul Janke will be joined on the panel by special guest filmmaker Dean Gibson.

Gibson has over a decade of experience in the film industry and in 2013 he established Bacon Factory Films. He is the director of Wik vs Queensland, a landmark documentary giving a powerful insight into the High Court’s 1996 decision to grant native title to the Wik peoples of Cape York. The film screens at the Sydney Film Festival this weekend and on NITV during NAIDOC Week 2018.

The episode will also cross to NITV’s WA correspondent Rangi Hirini at the National Native Title Conference in Broome, speak to lawyer Tony McAvoy SC and explore how Western Australia is leading the country in Native Title claims.

The Point also marks the 30th anniversary of the Barunga Statement and will cross live to NT correspondent Elliana Lawford ahead of the Barunga Festival.
