Khanh misses MasterChef finale

So close, but 25 year old Khanh was beaten under pressure in the TEN semi-final.

Victorian DJ Khanh Ong has missed his shot at the MasterChef Australia finale, with Ben Borsht and Sashi Cheliah to battle it out tonight.

All three had to cook a main and dessert for 20 former MasterChef contestants and the three judges.

But Khanh, 25, began to buckle under pressure when his fish skin was burnt after a piece of baking paper caught fire. Although he salvaged the dish, the judges agreed it was a great dish but was not spectacular. In his dessert they found his dark chocolate mousse heavy and dense.

Tonight Sashi & Ben will face off for the 2018 title, including a finale-worthy challenge from Heston Blumenthal.

7:30pm tonight on TEN.

  1. I think you guys are being a little harsh. Ben has always excelled in the many pressure tests where he’s had to work by himself and Sashi is so methodical it’s rare for him to put a foot wrong. Khanh also has shown tremendous resilience under pressure. I’d be happy if any combination of them had gotten into the final. And whilst I have more of a soft spot for Ben and they’d both be worthy winners, I think Sashi will take it because he has performed exceptionally with great consistence through the competition. It’s been a terrific season.

  2. They tell Saschi there’s not enough protein in his dish intially then Ben serves up virtually an entree and gets best dish? ? After not putting 2 or 3 items in an elimitation a week or so ago and doesn’t get eliminated quite obviously he is the person the judges want ,really Gary can you gush anymore at ordinary dishes ,no wonderyour out of the restaurant game

  3. Such a pity Khanh buckled under pressure , he comes across as an incredibly nice human being with a talent for great cooking. Good luck to the other two, both of whom seem to also be nice human beings who also do not handle pressure really well….will be happy with either of them winning.
