To be fair these stunts should be stopped to avoid exploitation of the system.
1. No splitting of TV shows. If they are separate episodes back-to-back that’s OK.
2. Simulcasts of same TV show shouldn’t be “combined” to get a higher result.
3. If figures are necessary in 15/30 minute windows, data should be reported min/max instead of one figure.
I understand your points, except why shouldn’t simulcasts of the same show be combined? If ten people watch on Channel 10, 15 on Channel One, and 5 on Channel 11, isn’t that thirty people watching altogether? It seems reasonable for the network to say that 30 were watching. They are thirty different people after all.
David why does HR have a separate Winners Announced listing.
This part of the show didn’t appear in the TV guide?
Its obvious that if listed it would be part of the finale overrun.
Although It does take Joanna an awful long time between words
It’s a coding stunt often used by networks to elicit a good headline which OzTAM has not blocked. The shorter portion of the show is like getting a “peak” rather than average. It is also employed across the two halves of 6pm news services Monday – Friday (but not weekends despite the same running time). We have frequently seen it for reality finales but on occasions it has been used more creatively. OzTAM “self-regulation” expects a 15 min limit on these tactics but I have revealed in the past networks have ignored that.
And Pointless’s pointless “simulcast” across all three networks to increase viewer numbers.
Ten did it for a fair while with ‘Family Feud’ as well-odder still are the random repeats of the thing late night and around the schedule in general.
Yes, I’ve seen the same episode show air no less than four times throughout the day and on various networks and it’s not consistent either.
