Theatrical UK drama Taboo gets its Free to Air premiere on SBS tonight.

The 8 part series starring Tom Hardy has aired on Pay TV and SBS on Demand and has been renewed for a second season.

Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire in hopes of rebuilding a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

Episode One:
James Delaney reappears in London, a changed and haunted man, presumed dead in Africa many years before. His return finds his father, Horace Delaney, dead and a country at war with France and the United States. Set to inherit what’s left of his father’s shipping empire, James’ arrival not only threatens to disrupt the plans of his half‐sister Zilpha and her husband Thorne, but also the political ambitions of the mighty East India Company, chaired by Sir Stuart Strange.

Wednesday, 1 August at 10.35pm on SBS

  1. Absolutely love this show, Tom Hardy is exceptional, although I found the character took a bit to warm to, by the end I was a little bit in love. Bring on Season 2.

  2. David, isn’t this the second time Taboo S1 has aired on SBS? I have a distinct (probable) memory of it being slotted in after the last part-season of Vikings?
