Auditions: Reno Swap

TEN is casting for a new renovation show in Sydney.

TEN is casting for a renovation show to be produced by Endemol Shine Australia.

The series is on the hunt for sets of neighbours, friends or relatives in Sydney to redesign and decorate three rooms in each other’s houses.

The catch is applicants must know others, living either next door or very close, who are also looking for a renovation.

“If your home needs renovating and 2 people you know are in the same predicament, why not give each other the makeover you all deserve?” a casting notice asks.

Unlike Nine & Seven, TEN hasn’t had much in the way of standalone property titles, after its short-lived titles The Renovators and The Hot House, but has scored with lifestyle series The Living Room.

Filming will take place in Sydney from late October to mid December.

      1. 3 rebirths or adaptations of existing formats
        2 talky panel shows
        2 actual new comedies
1 new sketch comedy (sounding like a xmas carol…)

So only 2.5 totally new original shows out of 8. Risk takers they are not.

The announcement of auditions for Reno Swap basically could have read as follows:

“Auditions for Reno singing dancing ninja dating cooking weight-loss panel gameshow” sought…

        1. Well risk takers is another argument. Talky panel shows are still new shows however one feels about the genre, but note I did indicate new shows, not new formats. I often see readers say networks have no new ideas (it’s the same reaction to show reboots) yet new shows are offered all the time. It isn’t an either / or situation.

  1. CBS please replace the management at network 10 as the current mob have no idea as to what Australian viewers want. CBS you wasted your money as 10 is slowly dying. I dont watch 10 very much but I do watch 1 and 11 but the multiple repeats every week of the same episodes of NCIS ,CSI have turned me off.
During daytime I have seen Diagnosis murder, medium etc so many times I almost know the actors lines off by heart. CBS sack the lot and just supply programs from your vast library direct from the USA

    1. Current numbers for The Block indicate viewers do want this genre. Some years ago TEN indicated they wanted an older audience, instead of being the youth network. I remarked at the time they lacked a serious property contender which had been a big driver for their competition, and carries a lot of sponsorship potential. I always thought Grand Designs Aus would have been worth nabbing. The right show in the right slot and a property show could work for TEN.

    2. 100% agree.

Ten management are making shockingly bad decisions. Get rid of them and replace them ASAP. I was absolutely shocked that they actually put that terrible Skit pilot on air. Did anyone watch it beforehand?

      Re-brand the network, Do Something.

    3. Totally agree. this year programming at ten has turned into a dogs breakfast. Firstly, Family Feud’s replacement, Pointless has turned from bad to worse, now Pilot week has failed to fire in ratings. Normally i don’t watch 10 very much (as I am very busy with a lot of other things). I hope that next yr there needs to be a complete overhaul with CBS/10. Beverly Mcgarvey needs to be replaced as the Chief Programming Officer.

    4. There are lots of renovation show formats on 9Life that are great (eg Barnwood Builders) so I don’t think the genre is a dud. The challenge will be finding something that grabs the audience’s attention. A while back was an Australian show following the restoration of unusual historic buildings – this would be a good one.

Uphill battle for Ten to try to attract an older audience. I still find most of their shows juvenile and with questionable morals. I think they have forgotton how to relate to the older demographic.

  2. TEN and Endemol may not have heard of a show called “Changing Rooms” that was basically a time warp exact rip off of their “new” format , but 25 years earlier !
Dirty rotten scoundrels, can you sue ?
