This week on NITV The Point marks National Science Week by looking into Indigenous science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Co-hosts of The Point, John Paul Janke and Rachael Hocking, will be joined by guest host, Mikaela Jade from Indigital Storytelling, a start-up which is turning cultural knowledge into augmented reality, using drones, 4D mapping, image recognition technology and cultural law.

Also being interviewed live on the program is STEAM Program Producer at the Sydney Powerhouse Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences, Celeste Carnegie. Celeste is passionate about creating opportunities surrounding digital technologies and creative solutions in the support of communities, and endeavours to champion the ideas and build platforms for Indigenous women everywhere.

NITV’s Rachael Hocking will speak to Indigenous women mathematicians who are challenging the norms in a male dominated field, and NITV reporter Liz Deep-Jones looks at how Indigenous astronomy can combine with modern day astronomy studies. She speaks with Kirsten Banks (a physicist and astronomer) from the Sydney Observatory and Drew Roberts from the Centennial Parklands who runs Indigenous star gazing tours in the park.

Finally, NITV’s Canberra correspondent, Nakari Thorpe is attending the National Environmental Science Week Conversation at Questacon and will be speaking with people who present approaches to incorporating Indigenous knowledge and values into climate science, biodiversity, threatening species recovery, urban planning, land use and freshwater and marine ecology.
