BBC to remake lost Dad’s Army episodes

Remakes using original scripts will form part of 50th anniversary celebrations.

BBC Studios are reportedly planning to film new episodes of Dad’s Army episodes as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

3 episodes from 1968 were wiped during cost-saving measures, but producers will draw upon original scripts: “The Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker”, “A Stripe for Frazer” and 12 “Under Fire.

It isn’t yet known who will take on the roles but a 2016 film featured Toby Jones as Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Wilson, Tom Courtenay as Jones, Michael Gambon as Godfrey, Blake Harrison as Pike, Daniel Mays as Walker and Bill Paterson as Frazer (or just ask Micallef & co.?).

Dad’s Army, created by the late Jimmy Perry & David Croft, originally aired between 1968 and 1977.

A one-off comedy drama We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story, about the genesis of the sitcom aired in 2015 with John Sessions, Mark Heap, Kieran Hodgson, Julian Sands and Shane Richie.

  1. Oh that would be amazing I was probably just one of the handful of people to watch the Dad’s Army novie that came out in the last few years … it was good fun.

  2. The Daily Mail claims that David Jason has been tipped as Captain Mainwaring and Hugh Laurie Sgt. Wilson. The producers are also hoping to have Ian Lavender (Pvt. Pike) involved.

  3. One episode, “Room at the Bottom” from Series 3, was re-discovered as a black & white 16mm film telerecord in 2008 and using a brilliant “colour recovery” technique, restored to full colour and aired again.
