Dad’s Army (movie): trailer

This will either be really good or really bad.....

I honestly don’t know what to make of this idea…. the Dad’s Army movie.

It will either be really good or really bad.

Casting looks pretty good, I must admit. So strange to see Toby Jones after his spooky turn in Wayward Pines.

It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then – to patrol the Dover army base – is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea. There’s a spy on the loose! The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.

Starring Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Toby Jones, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Blake Harrison, Daniel Mays, Bill Paterson.

But is it better than the Mad as Hell version?

  1. Dad’s Army’s original success was 75 percent casting, 25 percent script. (just like “Are you Being Served”. ) It’s hard to repeat a cult classic

  2. The only casting that I don’t understand is Bill Patterson as Frazer. Billy Connolly is the ideal casting and Peter Capaldi comes at a close second.

  3. Dads Army is rightfully a much repeated favourite of classic British comedy, the actors in the original show knew the WWII era and slapstick comedy so we’ll have to wait and see how this reimagining turns out.

  4. As a movie….blah…..even with the ‘good’ cast….does not impress me…
Shaun Micallef’ version….great…as a series….maybe the ABC should look into it…and before everyone starts posting…I know…rights and all that…

  5. This looks great!

On the one hand the casting seems predictable, but on the other hand these are some of Britain’s best character actors working today and they fill the roles perfectly.
