Orange is the New Black confirms final season

Litchfield prison will close its gates on a 7th season in 2019.

Orange Is the New Black has confirmed its final season for 2019.

Orange Is the New Black has profoundly impacted popular culture worldwide, and has played a prominent role in building Lionsgate into a platform-defining brand,” said Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “Thanks to the brilliance of Jenji Kohan, the mastery of the creative and production team, the transcendent cast, and our tremendous partnership with Netflix, the series has surpassed our expectations year after year. With great pride, we are working together to bring this landmark series to a triumphant, satisfying close with the upcoming seventh season.”

“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black,” creator Jenji Kohan said.

The show airs simultaneously in Australia through Foxtel (which had the show first in this territory) after Netflix launched and held onto streaming rights.

If Wentworth is renewed, as is widely tipped, it will outlast OITNB having both launched in 2013.

  1. Season 6 is far better than the train wreck that was season 5. So many characters were so OOC in season 5. I’m glad they are finishing with season 7 and hope that we get to see some happy endings.

  2. hope some of the cast and storylines that were abandoned after the season 5 finale are revisited. I didn’t warm to any of the new characters from season 6 so I hope it is another setting refresh.

  3. Good call, I still enjoy it but would rather see it go out whilst I’m still enjoying the show, Season 6 was a tad slow but I think it can be reinvigorated for Season 7 given it’s the last one and how Season 6 ended!!
