An unusual clause in 10’s contract with the Victorian Racing Club for its 5 year Spring Racing Carnival coverage will ensure Bruce McAvaney and Hamish McLachlan cannot appear on Racing.com broadcast.
Racing.com will retain its access to the coverage despite 10’s $100m deal with VRC. But it has managed to ensure McAvaney’s 16 year association with the Melbourne Cup will not threaten its own broadcast.
On Friday 3AW Breakfast host Ross Stevenson said, “The racing when it goes to Channel 10 next year will of course also be on Racing.com.
“However the terms of the deal contain the provision that 2 people are not allowed to present the races on Racing.com.
“Bruce McAvaney and Hamish McLachlan.
“It will be the current crop on Racing.com. But who will Channel 10 get?”
Both 10 and Seven, when contacted by TV Tonight, declined to comment on contractual detail.
Last week McAvaney found cause to dance to mark his Cup coverage “One More Time.”

Is Pete Donegan still kicking around?
Yes. He does a lot of golf commentary these days.
Will they really be missed ? Not by me and many others I would imagine.
Bruce is highly-regarded and associated with the event. Matt White has a challenge to replicate his success.
I hope Bruce moves to Channel 10, just for the Spring Racing Carnival!
He has already indicated he expects to stay with Seven until retirement which is “soon.”
I thought 10 might have tried to poach Bruce. Who called it for 10 when they had the Cup last time?
“No Hamish McLachlan”.
Hmmm…Can we get that clause into a few more broadcast contracts?
