We’re excited for 7food network to serve our core 25-54 audience more quality food content from home and abroad, anytime, on every platform, backed by the power of Seven.”

  1. I’ve been looking forward to this channel for several weeks, but somehow missed the message that it would only be on MPEG4. So disappointed, especially as they took most of my favourite shows from SBS, so they are now gone altogether.

Isn’t this what 7Flix did originally, and then found they had to convert back to the regular mode to get enough viewers?

  2. HI, I have been trying to find out between foxtel and posts about foxtel having this channel available. My house doesn’t have an antenna which means i rely on foxtel channels.

Anyone know if foxtel will broadcast 7food this at all ?

  3. How desperate are Seven to steal Food Network from SBS, that is if SBS couldn’t afford to pay for those programs. SBS Food is basically now a wasteland of ABC repeats and Masterchef cooks.

  4. Yay! Repeats of years old shows. I just picked a random episode (Giada At Home: Football’s Top Four) and it’s from 2015.

How about some new content please.

  5. Seriously another food channel on FTA tv why we already have SBS food channel which is excellent .why channel seven couldn’t give us something different lifestyle channel travel channel or movie channel or world sports channel .ill stick with SBS excellent food channel .

  6. Wish some one would come up with an all Aussie game show channel. Show all old re runs of Sale of the Century, Classic Wheel and Family Feud and other great shows. Even Price is Right along with shows like Blankety Blanks.

      1. Would they still be connected to their network now? Even though most of these shows havent been on air for about 10 years or more? I agree to David, BB would work well to though who would host it on 10? Grant Denyer and mabye Julia Morris?

  7. This seems like a waste of time. Repeating local offerings of state based travel shows (albeit with food offerings) and repeats of other 7 “original series” provides local content and the rest are international titles that seem like rejects that wouldn’t make it on the other channels.
Perhaps 50% Australian content (that is not repeats) would discourage multichannels of repeated overseas content…We don’t seem to get 50% Australian content on any multi-channel and the main channel only gets that because of all the news and morning TV and afternoon tv that also covers news….Rant over, will not need to tune in to this channel. Shame they invest time and money in this and not more quality Australian children’s TV or drama.

  8. While I’m aware of the bandwidth considerations, I’d be happier if the channel wasn’t broadcast in MPEG4. A lot of people with incompatible TVs are going to miss out.

    1. Set top boxes are plentiful, Telstra TV, Vodafone TV and Fetch TV will all support this new channel just fine. If people continue to hang on to 20 year old TVs then the rapid decline in picture quality is going to result in a faster demise of broadcast TV (FTA can continue on the internet)

If all FTA channels are upgraded to MPEG4 then they can all be a minimum of 720p with some in 4K. This will need to happen eventually as more bandwidth is taken for mobile broadband networks, resulting in less bandwidth intensive applications (like wireless microphones) being moved further down the band resulting in a higher squeeze on FTA.

A move to MPEG 4 can also provide more bandwidth for digital radio which is badly needed. There’s another technology that is rapidly being made superfluous by the internet which can provide better sound quality and far greater coverage.

      1. My TV isn’t 20 years old (got it in 2011 or 2012, can’t remember), it doesnt support Mpeg4 without some sort of set top box. Think your statement is overselling things a touch.
