Arctic chiller Fortitude, has confirmed a third and final season.
It will wrap with a 4 part miniseries, down from its previous ten-part runs.
The concluding chapter will open with the arrival of two new police officers from Oslo. Richard Dormer will return as Sheriff Anderson, alongside Dennis Quaid as trawlerman Michael Lennox, Sienna Guillory and Luke Treadaway as scientists Natalie Yelburton and Vincent Rattrey, plus new cast to be announced at a later date.
Dormer said: “I can’t wait to get back to this place. I love this world. A brilliant cast and crew. Returning to Fortitude always feels like coming home. And my old friend Dan is waiting for me. And he’s just got this big grin on his face.”
SKY’s head of drama Anne Mensah said: “We know fans of Fortitude all over the world really love this show and we can’t wait to welcome it back. Simon’s created this four hour special event which is the perfect ending to the most enigmatic, surprising, shocking and emotional series we’ve ever had on Sky Atlantic.”
Series three begins filming later this year.
It has aired in Australia on ABC.

A truly excellent and unique show. I hope it bows out in spectacular style (which is not hard considering all that awe inspiring scenery).
S2 has never aired on ABC. It went straight to SBS On Demand. And it has no closed captions. SBS On Demand is not a deaf friendly :(
I viewed on DVD (purchased at JB Hi-Fi) if that’s an option for you, would be reasonably priced by now, I’m positive subtitles are available.
Thank you for writing about this! Excellent show, became hooked a couple of years ago, can’t wait. It is certainly graphic, off beat and macabre at times, I do miss Stanley Tucci (who was outstanding in S1) but Quaid surprisingly fit in well last year. I’m all for a chilling psychological-mystery thriller, set in bleak isolation.
Recommend.
