rage: Aussie 80s

rage goes retro this Saturday to conclude AusMusic month.

rage is having an Aussie 80s Special this Saturday to conclude AusMusic month.

Chuck a sanger on the barbie, empty a can of hairspray on your head and dig out those power suits, we’re headed back to the golden Eighties to take out AusMusic Month in style.

It was a time of Kylie and Jason, when “Down Under” was a number one hit and “You’re The Voice” was played on repeat, but the eighties also saw some of Australia’s most loved and well-respected artists make their way into the spotlight.

Pub-rock dominated the scene, with Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel dropping powerful Australian anthems the likes of karaoke favourite “Power and the Passion”. Not to be outdone, homegrown alternative music exploded with bands like Hoodoo Gurus, Do-Re-Mi, Coloured Stone, The Go-Betweens and more firmly securing their place in the hearts and record collections around the country. Plus, who could forget the pop and rock powerhouses of the decade of INXS, Mental As Anything, Kylie Minogue, Chantoozies and more.

With so many great bands and classic Australian music to choose from (not to mention the on-point fashion of the music videos) what better way to round out AusMusic Month than a jam-packed weekend of Australian eighties clips.

A playlist should be available by Friday arvo here.

10am Saturday
12:10am Sunday (Saturday night) on ABC.

  1. Thanks for the heads up, David.
Used to watch Rage religiously back in the day but not so much anymore.
But this playlist should definitely be worth tuning in for.
