Gillian Anderson tipped for The Crown

Speculation X-Files star will portray British PM Margaret Thatcher.

British newspaper The Sunday Times has claimed Gillian Anderson will portray PM Margaret Thatcher in The Crown.

But some reports suggest the deal is not yet done, with The Hollywood Reporter noting negotiations have been underway since April.

It is unclear if Anderson would appear as Thatcher solely in Season 3 —the first to feature Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II— or recur through Season 4.

Netflix is yet to confirm the casting.

  1. Can the new series of The Crown just hurry up and get on our screens! I’ve rewatched the first 2 series so many times. Fingers crossed Claire Foy isn’t going to be missed too much but I’m sure after an episode or 2 we’ll get used to Olivia Coleman.
    Not sure how I feel about Gillian Anderson playing Margaret Thatcher. To me she’ll always be Scully but if she pulls it off I’ll give her the Meryl Streep award for greatest acting chops ever haha

  2. Charles Dance has also been cast in Series 3 as Lord Mountbatten, I didn’t think anyone could follow Greg Wise as Mountbatten but that’s some good casting. On a side note I really hope the 1975 Dismissal gets a mention somewhere.
