UK based organised crime drama gets a Free to Air premiere.

UK based organised crime drama McMafia will have its Free to Air premiere next week on SBS.

The 8 part drama, surrounding  stars James Norton, David Strathairn, and Juliet Rylance is based on a book by Misha Glenny, and follows an English-raised son of Russian exiles, with a mafia past.

Produced by BBC / AMC Networks it has previously screened on Amazon Prime Video.

It kicks off with a double episode premiere. These episodes will be made available on SBS On Demand after broadcast.

Alex Godman, the English-raised son of Russian mafia exiles, has spent his life trying to escape the shadow of their past, building his own legitimate business and forging a life with his girlfriend, Rebecca. But when a murder unearths his family’s past, Alex is drawn into the criminal underworld where he must confront his values to protect those he loves. McMafia was created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins (Black Mirror), and is directed by the latter. This fast paced drama stars James Norton (War and Peace) as the suave Alex Goldman.

Series One, Episode One:
When his families past brutally returns, Russian exile Alex Godman is drawn into the murky world of international crime. Having spent his life trying to escape the shadow of his father’s criminal past and running a successful London hedge fund, Alex suddenly finds himself having to protect his family and fight for all he has worked for. In doing so he must take a path he always vowed against.

Episode Two:
Alex reluctantly joins Semiyon in Prague as he ventures on a plan that will hugely cost Vadim’s business interests. Alex is asked to put his own business in danger as the pressure mounts, and Dmitri’s grief takes increasing grip as he spirals out of control, leaving the family feeling lost. Meanwhile, a young girl lands in Cairo and embarks on a very different journey.
