Docos, movies, food and more on SBS to mark the Year of the Pig.

SBS celebrates the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Pig with a distinct mix of programs.

SBS Managing Director, James Taylor, said: “SBS is the world’s most linguistically diverse public broadcaster, providing unparalleled services in 68 languages to the nearly five million Australians that speak a language other than English at home. Subtitled content is an important part of this offering and the Chinese Collection signifies a deeper commitment by SBS in service of Australia’s diverse communities.

“As we move forward, we will increase the accessibility of SBS’s distinctive local stories to more Australians by growing the selection of subtitled programs in more languages, building on our strong offering of international subtitled programs, which included more than 3700 hours over the last twelve months.”

SBS Director of Audio and Language Content, Mandi Wicks said: “Lunar New Year is one of the country’s biggest cultural celebrations, and as Australia’s most diverse broadcaster, SBS is focused on encouraging all Australians to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Pig.

“Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages in Australia and we’ve seen strong engagement with Simplified Chinese subtitled programs. We’re pleased to offer these communities the opportunity to enjoy more of SBS’s unique Australian stories in their first language as part of our overall Lunar New Year offering.”
