Andrew Denton: Interview: Apr 30

Singer Casey Donovan reveals how she was catfished by a fake romance.

Singer Casey Donovan is guest next Tuesday on Andrew Denton: Interview.

“The more I found out about it, the more Casey’s story just blew my mind,” Andrew Denton says. “It’s one of the most remarkable tales I’ve come across in my career.”

Donovan was catfished, manipulated into an imaginary affair by a woman pretending to be the man of her dreams. Having been lured into the relationship, her abuser then used Casey’s vulnerabilities to keep her locked in.

This is previously a topic she has discussed in her biography and during I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

“In the beginning I was like, this guy has to be real,” she admits. “And then as the months turned into years, I stupidly didn’t tell anyone that I’d never met this guy … I was just creating this big ball of lies.”

In a frank and fearless conversation, Casey takes us inside the waking nightmare that she lived for those six years and details how she’s put her life back together since.

Tuesday 30 April at 9.00pm on Seven.

  1. Wow, I’d never heard the phrase “Catfish”…I can understand how a 16 yo was caught up in the excitement of being noticed, and being told she was pretty and a great performer etc…you do anything at that age to be accepted and liked…I found your story fascinating…I wish you well Casey and I see you are taking steps to recover and heal from your enormous deception of so called people that love and care about you. I wish you luck in all you do xx

  2. Sorry Casey, love your work, but it took six years of being in a fake online relationship to realise it was fake ? Hope she is hyper vigilant about all sorts of scams now.
