Can 10 please renew Five Bedrooms?

Heartwarming characters, top-notch cast... no time like the present, please.

If you’ve been watching Five Bedrooms, you’ll know where I’m coming from when I say 10 should renew this show forthwith.

As I noted in my review, this show from Hoodlum is the best local drama 10 has done in a long time. And this week’s episode is right up there.

The heartwarming characters and awkward, candid storylines are in the same universe as shows like Packed to the Rafters and Offspring.

The cast have been scoring goals, including with the best use of Doris Younane since Heartbreak High.

But a shout-out to the supporting cast too. Faces like Kumud Merani as Harry’s mum Manju, Alan Dukes as Heather’s estranged husband Colin and Adam Fiorentino as handsome copper Pete all add up to an hour of increasingly-addictive TV. This week there’s more of the fabulous Celia Ireland. Bonus.

Ratings have been hovering around the 500,000 mark, which makes it one of the network’s top drawcards. But they go much later with Timeshifted and BVOD numbers.

A renewal while the show is on air is a show of faith that sends out a strong message. Besides, the Logie Awards are in less than 2 weeks and it would be great to see the cast walk the red carpet with the news of a second season to spruik.

  2. Absolutely agree. It fills a void left by offspring. Great cast and a great range of characters, but let’s face it if Kat Stewart is in something I’m gonna watch!

  6. This show has been growing on me and now I find myself looking forward to it. I wish I’d watched it from the beginning. I think David was spot on when he said that network television was well placed for more melodrama because I look to streaming services for the grittier dark dramas (I think it was David that said it and I’m paraphrasing). I would be gobsmacked if this wasn’t renewed.

    Loving Five Bedrooms and really hope to see at least a few more seasons to come.
    I never watched Offspring but I can see why Kat Stewart’s character was so well loved in that show.
    She’s fabulous in FB as well – just love her as the spiky, reserved but incredibly vulnerable Liz.

  8. Its all a matter of producers making money isn’t it, will this show find international sales perhaps to the UK or Europe, NZ will likely buy it and lets not forget CBS and its SVOD.

  16. Yes, absolutely loving this show and enjoying getting to know each of the characters. A nice blend of actors I was aware of already and a bunch of new ones too.

        If 10 renews the show, I assume they will go by them figures. Looking at the consolidated figures on MS it definitely makes it look better lol

  23. I’m really enjoying this show too & hope they renew it. It seems to be rating similar to Playing for Keeps & that got renewed so here’s hoping.
