In this week’s Body Hack Todd Sampson learns the hard way about adversity, fear and injury hanks to Mexico’s Lucha Libre wrestlers and an openly gay trainer, Luchadore.
Our bodies are designed to adapt and survive almost anything, but it’s our ability to rise every time we fall that defines our resilience.
According to science, only 30% of resilience is genetic. Toughness is a learned skill and Mexico’s Lucha Libre wrestlers are some of the toughest people on the planet.
Lucha Libre is part theatre, part sport and full on spectacle. Todd’s trainer is Cassandro – Mexico’s first openly gay Luchadore. Cassandro has endured physical, emotional and substance abuse since his early teens, overcoming prejudice and adversity to rise to the top of his macho-male dominated sport and become a national hero.

Todd Sampson should write a book called ‘Everything you always wanted to know about masochism but was afraid to ask’.
