Murder Rates
In the ultra-competitive world of commercial television, programs live and die by the ratings. The truth is, if the audience isn’t substantial, shows don’t survive. Consequently, presenters and producers are often heard uttering the phrase that they’d “kill for good ratings”. Of course, here in Australia it’s only a saying. But the same doesn’t seem to be the case in Brazil. There, a TV host saw that his audience increased whenever he reported gruesome crime stories. So what did he do? Well, the accusation is he started arranging and ordering murders so he could film them for his show. Worse still, it worked – his program became an enormous success. Karl Stefanovic travelled to one of the most dangerous regions of Brazil for one of the strangest stories he’s ever told.

Village of the Damned
There may be no uglier word in the English language than paedophile. It conjures up thoughts we never want to have of monsters preying on innocent children. As reviled as they are though, paedophiles lurk in greater numbers than most of us know and ignoring that they exist won’t cut it anymore. In Florida, Liam Bartlett visits the very confronting “Pervert Park”, a trailer park entirely inhabited by paedophiles and other sex offenders who have served their prison sentences and have nowhere else to live. This village of the damned is set up for the protection of both its residents and the community, but it’s also testing a new, controversial theory, the results of which are surprising.
