Sonia Kruger confirms Nine departure

"It's time for me to go and do something new," says Today Extra and The Voice host.

Sonia Kruger has now confirmed her departure from Nine, following recent reports she is returning to Seven.

“After eight fabulous years I am leaving the show and the Nine Network. I have had an amazing time here. I have been very privileged to work on some top shelf programs and of course with you, David,” she told David Campbell on Today Extra.

Describing her time as an ‘absolute blast’ Kruger added, “It’s time for me to go and do something new. You know what it’s like, Dave. You’ve got to spread your wings!”

Kruger did not confirm her new TV home, which Seven is also yet to announce. Her departure will signal changes for both Today Extra and The Voice in 2020.

Rumours have abounded about her hosting Big Brother but senior Seven sources tell TV Tonight this is not the case and the show is looking for a refresh.

Kruger added, “Tomorrow is going to be my last day on the show and as a thank you to you at home for having me in your living room every day, we are putting together something special to celebrate.”

      1. Exactly Gaz, why would she, she already has the best job on TV.. If Nine wants to poach anyone, maybe look at Mel Doyle. She has lost her job and has oodles of talent to do Today Extra.

  1. This will be a huge loss for Nine. Today show is already suffering with the ratings and Sonia leaving may also effect Today Extra’s ratings.

Nine have announced that Sylvia Jeffreys will replace her while Nine look for a permanent replacement.

  2. still tipping her to host that rumoured Midday revival. it would have to be something decent to get her away from the Voice. Today Extra wouldn’t be as hard to convince her to leave. I can’t imagine with Today’s ratings Today Extra does much better

    Oh thank god

  4. Cue hosting a few Australian reality / competition formats before settling into mid-moring or afternoon television hosting. And she’s getting paid $1.5m for this?
