BBC suspends soaps

UK dramas including Eastenders & Casualty hit pause.

The BBC has suspended all of its ongoing dramas as a precaution amid the coronavirus crisis.

“In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update,” the broadcaster said in a statement.

“We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and public health organisations.”

Affected productions include Eastenders, Casualty, Holby City, Doctors, River City and Welsh soap Pobol y Cwm.

The news is not expected to impact episodes in the short term.

This follows the suspension of UK dramas Peaky Blinders, Line of Duty, The Witcher. and cancellation of the British Academy Television Awards, British Academy Television Craft Awards and the The 2020 Olivier Awards.

ITV is yet to announce a closure to Coronation Street or Emmerdale.

In Australia TV dramas are also hitting the pause button including Wentworth, Neighbours and Clickbait.
