Tony Jones explains that kiss

"It wasn’t my fault!” declares Tony Jones over that infamous peck with Rebecca Judd.

Nine’s Tony Jones has given a belated explanation to one of TV’s most awkward pecks, when weather presenter Rebecca Judd declined his kiss live on air.

That was back in 2016 (well before #metoo).

Yesterday on The Sunday Footy Show Billy Brownless placed his co-host at the top of a viral moments list.

“I’ve put up with that crap for years, and it’s not my fault!” Jones declared.

“Our News Director, Hugh Nailon, here at Channel 9 at Melbourne, didn’t organise the flowers. I was supposed to present Bec the flowers.

“And when we realised he’d forgotten to organise the flowers, I said, ‘Well I’m going home!’

“And then I think John Murphy was the floor manager, he sort of said, ‘You’re gonna stay here. You’ll stay here and play happy families.’ Well that was a real happy family, wasn’t it?

“So it wasn’t my fault!”

Asked why he went in for a kiss in the first place, Jones explained, “To wish her luck!”

“Not with those teeth, mate,” Brownless quipped.

Now if only we could get an explanation for this one which happened earlier, when Bec was filling in for Livinia Nixon…..

  1. Also wasn’t his fault when he told Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka that he was impressed she was able to carry the trophy to the studio all by herself…
