“Heartbreak High was a really good foundation”

1990s drama was a great start in TV for Callan Mulvey, but don't expect to see him if the reboot take off.

With talk of a possible Heartbreak High reboot, I recently asked actor Callan Mulvey his memories on the show.

Playing heartthrob student Bogdan Drazic from 1997 – 1999, it was his first television series.

“It was a great time for me,” he recalled.

“When we weren’t on set, we were rehearsing, learning how to be more honest and more truthful. I have nothing but fond memories of it.

“It was a really good foundation, so good luck to them. I hope it takes off.”

The reboot is in development with Fremantle. But Mulvey, currently appearing in ABC’s Mystery Road and enjoying regular US work, isn’t quite ready to revive his role as a teacher or parent, should the project go to series.

“I think I’ve done my time on that….”

  1. I’ve lost interest since they hadn’t bothered to release the rest of the series on DVD.

Judging by what is suggested in the credits and the overall look of the show, I believe it was shot on film and transferred to videotape for broadcast (and it consequently looks horribly dated as they hadn’t bothered to remaster it since the 90s). Heartbreak High is long overdue for a remaster from the original film elements (if they still exist), but nobody seems to want to put any money into it.

  2. Have you heard David if it will be a limited series format or harking back to the soap style of the original.

Maybe it could be paired with The Heights.
