Robert Hughes denied parole review

Former Hey Dad! star fails in an appeal and will remain behind bars until at least 2021.

Former Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes will remain behind bars until at least 2021 after the NSW State Parole Authority today refused to grant a review hearing.

The SPA refused Hughes parole last month determining that “without structured post release plans” and supervision he “presents as an unacceptable risk to community safety”. It also refused an automatic review.

But Hughes submitted an application seeking to appeal the decision.

However, at a closed meeting today, the panel agreed a review was not warranted as the reasons for his refusal have not been addressed.

At his last parole meeting, the SPA was informed Hughes, had withdrawn his International Transfer of Prisoner application, which authorities had approved, and also renounced his Australian citizenship.

NSW and the UK do not have reciprocal arrangements for parolees, only prisoners.

As such, if released to parole, Hughes would be immediately deported to the UK where he would not be supervised in the community or compelled to comply with any parole conditions.

Hughes will not be considered for parole again until 2021.
