Gold Telethon 2020: guide

Nine’s 2020 Gold Telethon for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation will be a 2 hour broadcast this year.

Today Extra’s David Campbell and Belinda Russell will host Nine’s broadcast, with 11-year-old Ollie as the face of the telethon for the third time. Ollie has been a patient at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick since birth with a rare condition requiring lifelong treatment.

Seven recently conducted a shorter Good Friday Appeal in Melbourne.

A star array of Nine’s personalities will join them throughout the telethon, including Today’s Karl Stefanovic, Allison Langdon and Alex Cullen, Weekend Today’s Richard Wilkins, Wide World of Sports’ Erin Molan, as well as newsreader Peter Overton and 2GB host Deb Knight.

The Voice superstar coaches Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian and family favourites The Wiggles will be performing again at this year’s telethon, along with illusionists The Black Ties. Joining this lineup are APRA Award winners The Rubens and Aussie singer-songwriter G Flip.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will also be extending her support.

Now in its 11th year, the Gold Telethon will be appealing to businesses and viewers all over New South Wales, who have shown such wonderful generosity for other recent appeals, to donate what they can for these deserving youngsters.

Since Nine joined forces with the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation the telethon has raised more than $42 million.

Throughout this year’s telecast there will be remarkable stories of inspiration and hope, including:

• A three-year-old boy who is the face of the Gold Appeal and the youngest child in Australia to be fitted with a halo-gravity device to correct his curvature of the spine.
• A brave seven-year-old boy with a rare brain disease.
• The resilient young girl now aged twelve who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour at 15 months but beat her cancer just months ago.
• And the courageous twin girls battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia who aren’t about to let life’s challenges get them down.

It’s inspirational kids like these who show us why both the hospital and its patients need our ongoing support in order to receive the world-class care Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick is renowned for.

Being the International Year of the Nurse, this is also an opportunity to thank our nurses and healthcare heroes on the frontline caring for our kids every day.
